Abstract: Energy is always a hotspot for human beings. Since the 1950s, researchers have been trying to create “infinite” clean energy by means of nuclear fusion reactions. Currently, some proud milestones have been achieved. For example, collaborated by 35 nations, an international nuclear fusion research and engineering megaproject, the International Thermonuclear Experiment Reactor (ITER). Nevertheless, nobody can answer when we will be able to light our room or charge our phone via nuclear fusion since many challenges still exist.
In this presentation, I will first introduce nuclear fusion and its application in energy generation. Then I will talk about the Monte Carlo method which is used to simulate the neutral particle, like deuterium, and calculate interest of quantities in this application.
Speaker: Zhirui Tang is a PhD student in the Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics research group in the Computer Science Department of KU Leuven. He obtained his master degree from Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany, and his bachelor degree from Chongqing University of Post and Telecommunications. Zhirui’s research focuses on the Monte Carlo method for neutral particle simulation in nuclear fusion application.
