The affine maximal surface equation is the counterpart
of the minimal surface equation in affine geometry.
We consider the first boundary value problem of the equation,
and its related Plateau type problem. We formulate the problem
as a geometric variational problem, and prove the existence
and regularity of solutions in all dimensions.
