Applications of cryptography have witnessed an explosive growth in the past decades, especially since the development of the World Wide Web. The author advocates the importance of a balanced approach to pursuing one's intellectual curiosity in theoretical inquiry vs. practical application oriented research. Emphasis of the talk will be placed on processes for, as well as personal experience in, turning a promising idea in cryptography into a technique that may one day be used by industries and consumers across the globe.
随着万维网技术的发展，密码学应用在过去的几十年里已经得到了暴发式的增长，在本报告中作者提倡一种在理论研究中的智力探索与面向应用研究中的平衡发展，重点在于以个人经历阐释如何将在密码学中有前途的思想转变成一种能被全球工业界和消费者认可的技术。
