Introduction ofspeaker:
ProfessorAlejandro Adem was awarded an NSF Young Investigator Award in 1992, a RomnesFaculty Fellowship in 1995 and a Vilas Associate Award in 2003. During theperiod 1999-2002, Dr. Adem served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics atUW-Madison. From 2003 to 2007, he served as co-chair of the Scientific AdvisoryCommittee for the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, and as amember of their Board of Trustees. On January 1, 2005, he became the DeputyDirector of PIMS, and on July 1, 2008 he became the Director of PIMS. He alsoserves on the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Association for Research inthe Mathematical Sciences and the Banff International Research Station. OnFebruary 1, 2015, he became the CEO and Scientific Director of MITACS.
Abstract:
In this talk Iwill describe a new cohomology theory constructed out of commuting unitarymatrices. I will discuss its role in bundle theory and homotopy theory. This isjoint work with J.Gomez, J.Lind and U.Tillmann
